Welcome this Summer’s Intern

Nikki Lee starts on May 17 as our studio’s summer intern. A Visual Communication Design major at the University of Hartford’s Hartford Art School, Nikki just finished her junior year. She has served as a residential assistant in the UHA dorms and as a technical advisor in the VCD Computer Lab. You can view her work at her portfolio website.

Winners in the Creativity International Interactive Awards Competition

Taylor Design is pleased to announce that it received two awards in the 2011 Creativity International Media & Interactive Awards Competition, including an award for the Allegient Systems website and an award for the Long Island Sound Study website.

Where the Best College Magazines Hang Out

The University Magazine Group was created in mid-2007 with the goal of providing editorial and design expertise to help universities, colleges, academic divisions, and independent schools improve magazine readership by creating publications of the highest quality. A recent post in “UMagazinology,” the group’s blog, includes Sarah Lawrence Magazine in the glamorous group on display in Swarthmore Bulletin’s bathroom. Jeff Lott writes: “Iowa and Carleton stop by, flaunting their white space; then haughty Sarah Lawrence shows up all smart and sophisticated. ‘Sarah’s got a lot of nerve,’ Dartmouth whispers to Brown.” A hilarious story. Visiting Critic at University of Hartford

Dan Taylor Visits VCD as a Connecticut Graphic Design Speaker

Dan Taylor served as a guest critic at “Feast Your Eyes,” University of Hartford’s annual Visual Communication Design Senior Exhibition. The event was held at ArtSpace in Hartford, CT. The Hartford Art School, founded in 1877, offers programs in art, theatre, dance, and music and occupies a central location on the University of Hartford campus.

The Book Drive Initiative—sponsored by PUSH, DesignerGrill, CADC, and Mohawk Fine Papers—is looking for any design-related books or publications, which will be distributed during the 11th Annual CADC Student Conference at Sacred Heart University on March 26th, 2011. Dan Taylor to Speak at CADC Student Conference

The Connecticut Directors Art Club is presenting the 2011 Student Conference and Scholarship Competition at Sacred Heart University on March 26. Dan Taylor will be joining Brent Robertson, Fathom; John La Rock, Plowshare; kHyal, Fiz; and Karl Heine, creativeplacement as the day’s featured speakers. Vaughn Fender Selected for GR8

Designer Vaughn Fender was one of eight Connecticut creatives selected by the CADC to visually answer the question, “How does creativity personally affect social responsibility + change?” On March 10th at the Kehler Liddel Gallery in New Haven, Vaughn and others will share the results of a two-month creative exploration. Creativity 40 Awards Competition

Taylor Design is pleased to announce that it received four awards in the 2010 Creativity Awards Competition—two Gold Awards for Sarah Lawrence College Magazine and the Taylor Design Open House poster, a Silver Award for the Keep America Beautiful Annual Report, and a Bronze Award for the Taylor Design Holiday Calendar. The projects will appear in Creativity 40, which will be on sale in January 2011.

Chris Joins the Team

Taylor Design has added Chris Yerkes to its roster. Chris is a 2008 graduate of Quinnipiac University with a Bachelor of Arts in Interactive Digital Design. While at Quinnipiac, Chris served as a Technology Assistant, providing hardware and software support to students and faculty. Previously Chris was employed as the lead web designer at Media Infocus Studios, creating e-communications using XHTML, CSS, JQuery, Flash and developing content management systems using WordPress and Joomla.
